Sharpening stone for knives
Knife sharpeners are one of the most popular accessory products we have, but actually also one of the most underrated accessory products. A good sharpener for one or more quality knives is one of the most important products that you will have, besides your good knives of course. A sharpener is the absolute best accessory or sharpening product that you can have at home. So we can easily use the classic expression here "It's not a sharp knife that is dangerous, it's a dull knife". Therefore, we cannot emphasize how important it is to have a good sharpener, so that you always have good and sharp knives.
Grindstone set
We also sell whetstone sets here at Qookware. We sell our whetstone sets with the aim of allowing people to buy all the different types of grit they need at once. What all our whetstone sets have in common is that each whetstone set always comes with a bamboo holder, angle and rubber edge. In addition, we naturally believe that there should be a “carrot” for buying more than one whetstone at a time. That is why there is often a quantity discount to be had if you buy more than one whetstone at a time.
What is a grindstone?
A wet whetstone is actually most often the same as a regular whetstone, in our case the whetstones we sell at Qookware are the same. So a whetstone and a wet whetstone are the same. A wet whetstone must be soaked in water for 15-20 minutes before use and so must our whetstones. A wet whetstone is, in short, a whetstone that you can use to make your knives as sharp as new again. Therefore, a wet whetstone is also an indispensable accessory product for your kitchen.
Sharpening stone for knives
A wet whetstone for knives is the best way to bring your old knives back to life, or to keep your new knives in good condition. With a quality wet whetstone, you are on the right track when it comes to sharpening knives. However, there are some things you should be aware of when using a wet whetstone. You should, among other things, leave it in a water bath for 15-20 minutes before using it. In our video guide at the bottom of the page you can see step by step how to use the whetstone correctly.
What is the best sharpening stone for knives?
It's a difficult question to answer, because what is really the best sharpening stone for knives? Is it the one with the lowest number of grains? The one with the highest number of grains? That's a question that you can't just answer. The best sharpening stone for knives is the type with the appropriate grain size for your problem. If you have a lot of unevenness and nicks in the blade, then you should choose a sharpening stone with a lower grain size. On the other hand, if you have a knife that doesn't have any major unevenness, but "just" needs to be sharpened to a sharp point again, then you should choose a sharpening stone with a higher grain size. If you choose the correct grain size every time you use your sharpening stone to sharpen your knives, then you will automatically get the best result.
Which grindstone should I choose?
We would always advise you to choose a whetstone that suits your own needs. First of all, you should of course choose a whetstone with two different grain sizes. This is also the reason why both of our whetstones have two different grain sizes. Grain size 500/1000 and grain size 2000/5000 respectively. We would recommend that you use a whetstone with a grain size of 500/1000 if you use your knives for many hours every day. On the other hand, if you do not use your knives more than you would normally do for ordinary home use, we would recommend a whetstone with a grain size of 2000/5000. However, it is difficult to give a definitive answer as to which whetstone to choose, as it is often very individual and depends incredibly much on how you use your knives. That is why more and more people are choosing to buy two different whetstones, so that you have 4 different grain sizes. This means that you are always on the safe side when using your whetstone to sharpen your knives. That is why it is also incredibly difficult to give a correct answer to the question "which whetstone should I choose?".

What is the best sharpening stone?
What is the best sharpening stone? This is a very difficult question. It depends on the condition of your kitchen knife. If you have a kitchen knife that has an incredible number of notches and unevenness in the blade, then it is a necessity to get a sharpening stone with a low grain size, this could be, for example, grain 500 you chose to use. On the other hand, if you are really good at taking care of your kitchen knives or you want to sharpen them very often, then it would be best to buy a sharpening stone with a denser grain. Therefore, there is no concrete answer to what is the best sharpening stone. This is an individual assessment that you have to make yourself.
Can I buy a holder for the whetstone?
If you choose to buy a whetstone, it is of course nice to have a holder, both for storage and for possible use. All whetstones that we sell here at Qookware already have this included. All whetstones come with both a wooden holder, an angle that can be placed on the blade of the knives and last but not least a rubber edge that you can place on the underside of the whetstone so that it does not slip during use. This not only provides good storage options, but also better functionality during use.
