ROSE knivserie

Chef's knife set

Thinking about upgrading your kitchen knives—or perhaps investing in the perfect knife set? Then our Qookware Rose knife series might be exactly what you’re looking for.

The series consists of 8 different knives, ensuring there’s a tool for every task in the kitchen. You can choose from versatile knife sets with either 4 or 7 pieces, giving you everything you need in one complete set. The range includes a classic gyuto chef’s knife, a nakiri (Japanese-style vegetable knife), a santoku (Asian-style chef’s knife), a bread knife, a boning knife, and finally the two smaller essentials: a utility knife and a paring knife.

What all the knives have in common is their unique, design-protected handle and clean, minimalist look. The handle features a subtle drop-shaped design, developed in collaboration with an industrial designer in Aalborg. We spent months testing and refining it to achieve the perfect shape—ensuring it is both ergonomically correct and comfortable to hold.

Last but not least, all knives are crafted from high-quality steel with a VG-10 core—one of the most widely used and trusted steels for premium chef’s knives.

Design-protected knife series

Our Rosekniv series is not “just” an ordinary knife series that you can find on the shelves everywhere. After several different types of testing of materials types for the handle as well as the blade, we have found the best and most optimal composition. The knives are made with a handle in rosewood and a blade with a core of VG-10 steel. The blade of the knife itself has a unique design that makes it as comfortable and as ergonomic to work with as possible. That is why, in collaboration with our industrial designer, we have designed it in this way. This also means that the knife series has been design protected by EUIPO
(European Union Intellectual Property Office), which is very atypical for a knife series. Therefore, we also guarantee a razor-sharp knife series, pleasant, ergonomic and comfortable grip.

Knife sets used in competitions?

Once again, we would like to emphasize that our knife sets are not "just" used by ordinary chefs, people or other good people. That's why it also made us incredibly happy and proud when the Danish star chef Michael Nørtoft told us that he doesn't just use our knife sets on a daily basis in his work as a Michelin chef. Both Michael and his assistant also use our knife sets from the Rose series for competitions. In 2022 alone, they have participated in, among other things, the 'Chef of the Year Final' and the 'Nordic Championships', where in the latter competition it resulted in a nice podium place among some of the most talented chefs in Scandinavia. Therefore, it can be safely said that it is also a professional knife set, which you can buy here.

A chef's knife is the most important tool in the kitchen

The Rose series consists of 7 different kitchen knives, but there should be no mistake about which kitchen knife is the most used kitchen knife in the kitchen. The chef's knife is the most versatile and used kitchen knife in almost all types of kitchens. This applies to both private and professional kitchens. The chef's knife can handle an incredible number of tasks in the kitchen, it can, among other things, slice and chop vegetables, trim meat, cut out a good tender piece of meat or actually also be used to fillet a fish. That's why we also see the classic chef's knife as a necessity in every kitchen. "Without food and drink, the hero is no good" "without the chef's knife and a kitchen, the chef is no good". That's why it's important that your chef's knife is extremely sharp and fits well in your hand, which is why we also believe that our Rose chef's knife will be your best chef's knife.

Ergonomic rosewood handle

As we mentioned earlier, the knife series is equipped with an ergonomic handle. The handle was developed in collaboration with an industrial designer and has subsequently been continuously tested by our partners. In addition, it is also design protected due to its unique shape, which most of all resembles a teardrop shape at the bottom. The unique thing about the ergonomic handle is that it gradually becomes narrower and narrower the closer you get to the blade. Therefore, you always get the optimal grip around the handle, which ensures correct use, as well as a comfortable grip where the knife lies well in the hand. The ergonomic handle is also designed so that it can be used by both left- and right-handed people.

A knife set with minimalism in mind

When it comes to making a quality knife set, we have had an ambition from the start that the knives should speak for themselves. That is why our knives in the rose series only consist of two individual elements. We have the handle and we have the blade. That is it. Since we have always had a penchant for both minimalist and quality strong tools, we feel we have hit the perfect combination in this knife series. The knives are not equipped with any metal at the bottom, as you often see on other knives. Last but not least, we also believe that a knife in a beautiful design should speak for itself. That is why we have actively opted out of having our entire name or logo on the knife blade. Instead, it is “hidden” on the knives and it is on the underside of the small piece of metal that connects the handle with the blade.

High quality Damascus steel in 67 layers with a core of VG-10 steel and a high HRC on the Rockwell scale

When you talk about a high-quality knife, they must of course also be equipped with high-quality steel, so that you always have sharp knives. That is why all the kitchen knives in this knife series are also made of Damascus steel with a high HrC on the Rockwell scale. They actually have an HrC of 62, which means that they are sharp knives, and that they are more resistant to corrections. The blades of the knives themselves are made of this 67-layer steel and have a core of VG-10 steel, which is a type of steel that is often used for high-quality kitchen knives because they can be extremely sharp and durable.

Choose a complete knife set

As we mentioned earlier, the knife series consists of 7 different knives, each with its own unique skills. What they all have in common is that they are forged using the Damascus method in 67 layers of steel, have a high HrC according to the Rockwell scale, lie well in the hand with their comfortable grip and perhaps most importantly, they are the perfect knife set. Below we will go into the different 7 kitchen knives that are in the knife series.

The Gyuto chef's knife

The first and most well-known knife in the series is undoubtedly the classic gyuto chef's knife, which is often also simply referred to as a chef's knife or the chef's knife. The chef's knife is a good and versatile kitchen knife that can be used for most tasks in the kitchen. However, the chef's knife is especially good for cutting larger raw materials. This can be, for example, larger pieces of raw meat, ready-made roast or steak, but it is also good for ordinary vegetables, which you often use a little more in everyday life. Therefore, it is also the most all-around chef's knife that you will have in your assortment.

The Nakiri knife

The nakiri knife is perhaps one of the more modern knives in the Danish kitchen and many will undoubtedly see the nakiri knife as a kind of "meat grinder". However, this is definitely not what a nakiri knife is made for. A nakiri is the Japanese and Asian version of a vegetable knife and is therefore only used for vegetables and not meat at all. The knife's blade, which is incredibly wide, makes it perfect for chopping vegetables, large or small. With its wide blade, it also requires that you know what kind of nakiri knife to choose. A nakiri knife can be difficult to control than other kitchen knives if you don't choose the right one. What is important is that it fits well in the hand and has an ergonomic handle. This will not only make it easier to use in the kitchen, but also actually more comfortable to work with.

The Santoku knife

The Santoku knife is one of the less used knives in the European kitchen compared to the gyuto chef's knife and the nakiri knife. Nevertheless, the santoku knife is actually Asia's answer to a chef's knife, which is why it is also called the "Asian chef's knife". This of course also means that they have many of the same functions as a regular gyuto chef's knife or a nakiri knife. It has about the same size as a gyuto chef's knife, but a completely straight blade like a nakiri knife. Therefore, it is almost a kind of hybrid between these two. However, one should not underestimate how good a santoku knife actually is. It can handle both chopping vegetables, cutting herbs and cutting meat. Therefore, it is a fantastic all-around chef's knife.

The bread knife

The bread knife is possibly the most common kitchen knife you will find in the home along with a chef's knife and a paring knife. The bread knife is the absolute best knife for cutting baked goods and with a sharp knife and the ergonomic handle, you actually reduce the chance of accidents, as it is a dull knife that is dangerous to use. However, a bread knife is a more versatile knife than many people think. It can also be used to cut certain shapes of roasts or larger melons such as a watermelon.

Boning the knife

A boning knife is often a chef's best friend when it comes to meat. With its relatively short blade, the boning knife is perfect when it comes to trimming meat, which can be cutting tendons or membranes away from a piece of meat or completely cutting meat free from bones. A sharp knife is the alpha and omega and a boning knife is therefore perfect for cutting fish or poultry, which often requires great precision, so it is actually an incredibly versatile knife to have in your kitchen "toolbox". The knife glides easily and elegantly through raw materials and at the same time incredibly easy to control.

The utility knife

The utility knife is one of the two smallest knives that you can find in this knife series. However, this does not mean that this particular knife is not one of the important kitchen knives in your assortment. The utility knife itself is somewhat smaller than the chef's knife, but also somewhat larger than the herb knife, the blade of the knife is a bit of an intermediate size between these two. The name "utility" knife is a bit like the fact that it is a knife that can handle an incredibly many different tasks. It can be used for vegetables, meat, herbs and fruits, in fact, it can be used for almost everything. That is why the utility knife is also an incredibly popular choice among many chefs.

The herb knife

The smallest knife in the series is the herb knife, you can actually almost call it a short herb knife, as the blade is not particularly long on the knife. However, this does not mean that you should underestimate the herb knife, it still fits well in the hand and is incredibly easy to use. The herb knife is the absolute best kitchen knife when it comes to "pill work". That is, where you stand with fruits or vegetables in your hand and have to be more detailed and attentive in your movements. Then it is easier to use a knife with a short blade. However, it is of course still fantastic for chopping herbs, hence the name herb knife.

Two of the most important features of a good knife set

The handle must be ergonomic

With an ergonomic handle, you not only ensure a comfortable and ergonomic grip, you actually ensure more than this. With the right handle made of the right material, for example rosewood, you get a knife set with handles that are both comfortable to use, but can actually also improve your performance. In addition, you reduce the risk of mistakes and accidents when the knife lies well and securely in your hand. Therefore, the handle is one of the primary factors to look at when choosing a new knife set.

A knife set should have high quality steel and a high HrC on the Rockwell scale.

A good knife set must of course contain sharp knives and all the knives must be made of the same material, it almost goes without saying. If you choose a knife set from our Rose series, you will get a complete knife set, where it is high quality steel and all the knives can be extremely sharp. The knives have a high HrC on the Rockwell scale, which means they are quality knives. If you want to read even more about the steel on the knives, it is further up in the post.

Store your new knife set correctly

If you have already invested in a not cheap knife set, then there is no reason not to also buy something so that you can store your new knife set correctly. By buying a sensible product for storage, for example a knife magnet or a knife bag, you are sure that all the knives are stored correctly and you ensure that your sharp knives remain sharp. Therefore, you avoid dull knives, you do not damage the knife blade and you actually extend the life of the knives significantly. This also means that you do not have to have them sharpened as often. Therefore, we always recommend a good and safe storage method for your knife set.
